Today I got the exciting news that our brethren who were in captivity of kidnappers have all been released and taken to the hospital for checkup and tests
“The Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has directed the Area Commander, Ayetoro and the Anti-kidnapping team of the command to ensure that the students are rescued unhurt from their abductors.
“I was told they (bandits) broke in through the back and started the abduction while the security operatives broke into the premises through the gate because it was locked,”
The gunmen had reportedly attacked travellers and shot dead a man, whose name is not immediately available, while an unspecified number of passengers were also abducted.
Reports collated by our correspondent showed that Zamfara is the most affected with all its boarding schools shut till further notice. The Governor, Bello Matawalle, had in response to the abductions ordered the closure of all schools on Friday.
“The President is saddened by the abduction of the students from Jangebe and reassures you that the government has all the resources and wherewithal to contain these criminals.
“UNICEF expressed concern at reports of an overnight attack at the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, north-west Nigeria, where an unconfirmed number of schoolgirls were kidnapped.
The man pleaded guilty at a sentencing hearing to false reporting on 18 February and ordered to pay a £388 ($550) fine. Soules reportedly told the police he made up the story “as an excuse to get out of work,” according to the Coolidge Examiner.
"We gave them all in our possession in order to avoid maltreatment but they later took my husband through a nearby bush. I stood helplessly watching my husband being dragged into the bush and crying for help as no one was around to assist.”
We will investigate and if they have cogent reasons we will release them. Those found wanting will however be enlightened and even prosecuted if need be,”
A breakdown of the NPHCDA update contained in an Electronic Management of Immunisation Data, EMID, System, showed that Lagos remains ahead in the exercise with 193,794 persons vaccinated.
