The National Assembly Progressive Media Aides (NAPMAIDEs) has kicked against a statement credited to the Imo State Government, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Declan Emelumba accusing the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Sen. Rochas Okorocha of being behind attacks on Police Headquarters, Owerri Prison.
The Group said Sen. Rochas Okorocha deserved predecessorial regards and not downgrading and vilification by his successor, Governor Hope Uzodinma.
These were contained in a statement in National Assembly, Abuja, signed by one the Convener of NAPMAIDEs, Prince Oyelude Oladele.
The Group said any further accusations or vilification on Sen. Rochas Okorocha would be counter-productive as it would further demean and discredit the Governor and the Government of Imo State.
The statement read, “We read the media statement by Imo State Government, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Declan Emelumba accusing the former governor of the state who is also the Distinguished Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Sen. Rochas Okorocha of being the mastermind of the recent attacks on some federal facilities in Owerri, the State Capital. And our question is: what offence did Sen. Rochas Okorocha commit by producing a progressive successor”.
“In the South East Geopolitical Zone, Imo State was the only Progressive State since 2013 till date. Recall that on the 2nd March 2013, Rochas led an APGA faction to form the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was later elected by his colleague governors in the opposition as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum. With his progressive posture since 2013 till date, Sen. Rochas Okorocha deserved predecessorial regard from his successor, Gov. Hope Uzodinma”.
“Despite the fact that his successor, Gov. Hope Uzodinma is a progressive Governor, we can’t overlook any insult from his government against our parliamentary leader as NAPMAIDEs will never tolerate any assault on any progressive parliamentarians in both Chambers of the National Assembly”.
The Group advise Gov. Hope Uzodinma to be a crisis manager, tap from the rich 8yrs experience of his predecessor, eschew Ihedioha ideology of vilification and apply law with human face.
“As a Governor with Executive powers, there are some lines you should not cross even when backed by law, such spirit will enable you to manage diverse crisis in governance”.
“8yrs posture as a Governor is not a joke, it’s a journey full of experiences that is rich enough to learn from. Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha only govern the state for 7months with a visible vilification of his predecessor, it’s a lesson and a reference to every successor”.
NAPMAIDEs call on the APC Caretaker Committee And Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee to call the Governor of Imo State to order.
“In the spirit of progressiveness, we call on the Governor of Yobe state, the performing Chairman, APC Caretaker Committee And Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee to call the Governor of Imo State to order against further accusation on Sen. Rochas Okorocha.
Noted that misunderstanding between a successor and his predecessor in a state always make such state ungovernable and such outcome is not a Progressive expectation.
