‘Teachers are drivers of prosperity’ – Osun Lawmaker, IREKANDU calls on govt at all levels to make education a top priority

Honourable representing the people of Obokun State Constituency, Adewumi Adeyemi IREKANDU has described teachers as builders of great men and drivers of prosperity who should be treated with respect.

This description was made on Tuesday, October 5 by the Osun lawmaker while addressing journalists at the assembly in celebration of World Teachers Day.

The young lawmaker while felicitating with teachers appreciated their genuine contributions towards the growth and development of the nation.

Hon. Adewumi said despite the challenges, Nigerian teachers have shown great commitment to the advancement of education by ensuring that they raise students who are academically fit to compete with other students in the world.

While lamenting about the poor state of schools in the country, Hon. Adewumi called on governments at all levels to take education as a priority and contribute massively to its infrastructural and human growth.

The young lawmaker who is also an Architect called on the government to make teachers’ pay attractive and introduce special allowances to appreciate their contributions.

“Teachers are drivers of prosperity. They deserve to be appreciated always. They represent an important section of our moral institution. They do not only build the society, they build people. As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, we should not only appreciate their efforts but also pray and agitate for improved welfare packages for them”, he added.
