The Ondo State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and other Related Matters has recommended payment of 755 million Naira as compensation to the victims of police brutality and violence.
The Chairman of the panel, Justice Adesola Sidiq (Rtd), who led other members to submit the report of the committee to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday, also recommended the publication of apologies in the national dailies particularly where the reputation of victims had been tarnished.
The Panel Chairman said that part of their assignment bordered on the human rights violation as far back as 2003.
In October 2020, the #Endsars protest against police brutality rocked major cities in Nigeria, which led to the establishment of the judicial panel across the country to investigate the allegation of harassment and violence against Nigerians, by the Police.
And within five months, the Ondo state Panel of Inquiry had evaluated evidence and concluded on the validity of the victims complaints.
Governor Akeredolu is expected to implement the recommendations made by the panel in the days ahead to ensure that justice is served.
