Ope ni fun Eleduwa!

The one week long St Patrick’s Grammar School, Ibadan Founders’ Day Anniversary climaxed with a grand finale and luncheon on Saturday.

Welcoming old students who have been graduating from the college since 1967, the chairman, 60th Planning Committe, Mr Akinbode Isiaka Abayomi congratulated members to the venue. He eulogized the old students for assisting their former school. He remarked that the college was agog with commissioning of projects that were carried out by various sets. According to him, SPACO now wears a new outlook.

Among the commissioned projects were the renovation of a storey building; the school library; ICT lab.; borehole; lavatory; teachers’ furniture; the school gate and the fence.
It would be recalled that the 1983 set had earlier carried out some projects in the college. Among them were the construction of school fence, purchase of students’ chairs and desks; whiteboards between 2017 and 2019.

It was exciting for old students to be in the midst of their classmates -seniors and juniors. It was a matter of joy to see those people whom one had seen some 55 years ago.

We all gathered in a very large hall. We prayed. We sang together Nigeria’s National Anthem, Pledge and the School’s Anthem. This time around, not on our St Patrick’s Grammar School Assembly Ground, but in far away Emeritus Professor Theophilus Oladjpo OGUNLESI Hall, University College Hospital, Ibadan on Saturday 19th March, 2022. The event was well attended.

Unlike in those days, when we were students, we would wear our school uniform, every old student wore his best attire. Some in traditional robes (Agbada), a few other in Danshiki, while Catholic Priests wore their normal and simple religious wears.

The hall was beautiful decorated and musicians had a field day. The hall was arranged in a way that celebrants could sit together according to their years of graduation. The organizers might not have planned it that way. Nonetheless, we sat together with our individual classmates or sets. We had time to gist ourselves all important things that had happened since we left the soil of SPACO. Rich food and drinks were served to all attendees for consumption. It was a memorable occasion.

The first set of our Alma Mater (1967) was represented by a member. Virtually, all other sets were fairly represented.

The Masters of Ceremonies conducted themselves professionally. The programme went as planned. The one week long events of the St Patrick’s Grammar School, Ibadan 60th Founders’ Day Anniversary climaxed with Grand Finale and Luncheon, yesterday.

Emeritus Archbishop Philip Alaba JOB arrived early at the venue. He was there to pray for us and shared with us his experiences spanning seven decades in about 30 minutes. The 84 year old still walked straight. He majestically mounted on the podium at ease.

His Excellency, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun MAKINDE was fully represented. Mr Akin ALAMU, Executive Chairman of Oyo State Teaching Service Commission attended the programme. He spoke to us. The incumbent School Principal graced the occasion and addressed the gathering. Some teachers too addressed the large house.

Some outstanding Patricians were rewarded with Honours Awards.

The anniversary celebration has come and gone, but, its memory would linger on for a long time. It is our prayer that we witness many more in good health.
