Breaking: Okonjo-Iweala floors South Korea’s Myung-hee emerges WTO DG

Okonjo-Iweala has not been formally announced as the Director General, but it gathered today that Okonjo-Iweala polled more votes to defeat her only remaining opponent, South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee. She reportedly polled 104 votes from 164 member countries.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Nigeria’s Finance Minister, emerged as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) defeating her South Korean counterpart

Okonjo-Iweala has not been formally announced as the Director General, but it gathered today that Okonjo-Iweala polled more votes to defeat her only remaining opponent, South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee.
She reportedly polled 104 votes from 164 member countries.

It was gathered that Okonjo-Iweala did not get the support from the United States.

With the victory, the former minister becomes the first African and the first woman to lead the organisation in its 25 years history.

Her emergence is expected to be announced formally by the WTO later on today.
