Ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial election in Osun State, members of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Iwo, Iwo Local Government Area of the State, on Wednesday dumped their party to join the opposition People’s Democratic Party.

The defectors premised their decision to leave the ruling party on poor governance in the State, saying they could no longer bear the pains APC in the State and at the centre had brought upon the Nigerian populace.

Speaking on behalf of other defectors, Oyekan Bolaji, maintained that there are clear indications PDP will take over the mantle of leadership in 2022.

Bolaji pledged that they would all be law-abidingmembers while expressing readiness to deliver the local government to PDP in the forthcoming elections.

He said, “Today, we want to be officially accepted into PDP and ready to work for the party’s victory in the coming elections. The poor governance index in the state shows that PDP will take over the state in 2022.”

The defectors were received into the party at the party’s general meeting hosted by the party chairman, Hon. Sefiu Apesin.

The party chairman, who was represented by Alhaji Sulaiman Akanji Bello (SEEBEE), to receive the defectors urged them to be of good behaviour and work conscientiously for the party’s victory in 2022 governorship election and beyond.

According to him, it is a new dawn for the party as more members of the ruling party are on their way to join PDP, adding that the party’s door is still open for prospective defectors from APC and other political parties.

Similarly, the party’s House of Representatives candidate in Iwo federal constituency during 2019 general election, Hon. Lukman Kayode also known as L.& K. commended the defectors for their bold decisions.

Kayode said, “We are growing stronger and stronger every day and our growth will be felt in the 2022 governorship election in Iwo local government”.

The former senatorial leader of the party, Alhaji Halidu Adeoye who spoke on behalf of the party elders equally expressed his joy in receiving the new members, describing the party as the “Party for all”.

He assured them of equal rights as open to the old members, adding “today is a remarkable day and I want to welcome you all the party for all.”
